Washington, D.C., October 9, 2025 – The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, held a bilateral meeting today with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, in Washington, D.C.
Luhut was accompanied by DEN Vice Chair Mari Elka Pangestu, and members Chatib Basri, Septian Hario Seto, and Firman Hidayat. The meeting took place in a warm and productive atmosphere, reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to strengthening sustainable economic cooperation.
“A strong partnership is not born merely from shared interests, but from the willingness to seek balance. Through that balance, we can build long-term stability in our bilateral trade and economic relations,” Luhut stated in an official release.
The discussions covered a wide range of potential strategic collaborations, including in energy, manufacturing, and high-technology sectors—areas viewed as having significant potential to create jobs and enhance global supply chain resilience.
A key topic on the agenda was the ongoing negotiation of a Reciprocal Tariff Agreement between Indonesia and the United States. Luhut emphasized that while several technical aspects remain under review, the overall dialogue continues to be constructive and grounded in the principle of mutual benefit.
The meeting underscored Indonesia’s proactive economic diplomacy, which prioritizes building international relations based on trust, transparency, and long-term vision, in line with President Prabowo’s commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global stage.
